As we have just found out, Brunel University have told us the following: 'Brunel University’s Graduation 2012 September 10, 2012 As you know the Olympic and Paralympic Games take place in London in July 2012. As a result of this,our commitment to LOCOG (London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games), activities on campus and events in the local area the University will not able to hold graduation in July 2012 as normal. The Graduation planning team which includes UBS considered a number of options and it has been agreed by Senate that Graduation 2012 will take place in the week starting 10th September 2012. We will be working closely with everyone to make sure that Graduation 2012 is just as amazing as ever. More details about Graduation 2012 will appear on the website as and when they are available and it will be possible for students to receive their certificate before September 2012 if so desired.' Whilst the opportunity for Brunel to host olympic teams is both important and exciting, the first priority of the university should be to the students who pay the fees. I understand that we can get our certificates before, but the ceremony itself is an important end to our time at university. The photo of you in your gown should be one which is seen by all your friends and family and one which you keep and cherish forever, one that highlights your time and success at university. Many of us will not have that ceremony or the final memories of university we deserve should this go ahead. I urge you to sign this petition today. Thank you.
