It is common practice in the workplace for the entity requiring completion of a background check to also supply the necessary funds. I ask for that same consideration from the university.

the students should be commended for asserting their opposition to an arbitrary policy.

Are other health sciences centers implementing similar policies? Is this unique to OUHSC?

What is this justification for requiring an annual background check for the graduate students? Has there been an increase in graduate students committing felonies or having run-ins with the law. This policy goes against the type of academic culture that OUHSC should be trying to cultivate and is likely to further increase the challenge of recruiting the best graduate students to campus.

We completely agree that this discrepancy between the students at OUHSC and the other campuses is an important factor in our argument against the background checks.

In addition to the unexpected cost, since the administration hasn't disclosed their reasoning for the checks or what they plan to do with the information, this policy could be discriminatory and should not be supported.

This policy seems a huge violation of privacy, and and it essentially sends a message (intended or not) people with a criminal background are not welcome at OUHSC. There is NO precedent for an annual check like this.

I do not want to pay for CBC.

I have other, more important and impending health expenses to attend to which directly impact my ability to perform in the lab. This background check does not.

This seems like an attempt to gouge us for money. It's not a feasible option for us to leave the university nor is it realistic for anyone to walk away over $80.

If we absolutely must do this, please consider cheaper options. Thank you.
