I was particulary annoyed by paying for the stadium fee in previous years. It was a small amount compared to the rest of PhD tuition, but nobody asked for my opinion about that! How can we prevent this from happening again?

Fees that are more appropriate for undergrads are applied to graduate students as well. Only fees applicable to the graduate student lifestyle and needs should be required

On top of Tuition Fees, we are also paying Professional Student Governmt, Transportation Fee, CEHD Collegiate Fee. I don't even sure how we benefit from all these additional fees we are and have been paying.

Some of these fees put an unnecessary burden on graduate students, specially internationals. Also, some of the services covered by these fees are used by all the students.

Please consider waiving the student fees for graduate students or at least including them in the tuition waiver included in graduate assistant packages. The amount that graduate students get paid (when teaching) barely covers living expenses as it is and the necessity of paying student fees places an undue burden on graduate students, many of whom do not use the facilities or go to the events sponsored by the mandatory student fees.

Yes, because fees are payed with TA's taxable income, it's a double penalty. Fees should be abolished for students in fields with insufficient support due to the absence of funding sources, such as the humanities.

As a first-year student, who was accepted into a five-year program plan and promised full-funding in exchange for working as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, I feel it is disengenous of the University to spring unexpected fees upon its new graduate students. For very many of us, our time at the University of Minnesota will be characterized by living paycheck to paycheck, as we seek to improve our own academic standing, and that of the University as a whole (not to mention that of our Undergraduate Students). This we do because of our love of education and knowledge, and we gladly endure the financial hardships for our ability to contribute to the growth of so many young minds. This enthusiasm, however, is so often marred by the realization that even to continue our work with the Univerisity, we must forfeit the last remains of our already tenuous financial security, in the forms of such burdensome fees. Please consider the reforms suggested herein, and show your support for the contributions of your Graduate Student population in helping to make the University of Minnesota one of the best places to pursue a higher education.

Point #3 would be great for students (currently more than a full pay period each semester) as well as making the U more competitive to other grad programs.
