I have been reading the stories from teachers who remember their own time in the Gaeltacht and the financial struggle they now face just to stay connected to our language. This burden is keeping so many people away from an essential experience and the silence from the department is becoming deafening. I am currently preparing a formal letter to bring these concerns directly to the policy makers who decide these budgets.

Time spent in the Gaeltacht is a mandatory requirement set buy the Government itself!! It is absolutely ridiculous that they don't help wth the fees!!!
It is ridiculous that young student teachers are expected to pay for college, school placement resources and on top of that two stays in the Gaeltacht that are mandatory. Where do they think we are supposed to get this money from? Changes must be made.
Gaeltacht fees are crazy and we have no choice but to go to the gaeltacht! When it's compulsory it should be made accessible to those of us who are struggling to pay for everything else as well as gaeltacht
Gaeltacht literally burns a hole in your pocket as well as not being able to work for two weeks!
There is already a huge cost on student teachers and a high percentage of them are working a part time job just to cover teaching costs. Cuir deireadh le lán táillí Gaeltachta !

I am doing primary school teaching and have to go to the Gaeltacht for the second time this April. It is ridiculously expensive and with the cost of placement it is way too expensive. During placement I am now working 5 days a week unpaid and 2 days a week at the weekend in a restaurant to pay for it.
