Chandler Unified School District was honored on November 1, 2008 when the SJHS Cheer squad took 1st place, with a UCA qualifying score of 89, to represent Santan Junior High at the UCA Nationals scheduled for the Spring of 2009.The NHSCC is held at the Walt Disney World® Resort in Orlando, Florida, and nationally televised on ESPN and ESPN2 to over 100 million homes and 32 countries nationwide each year.
We, as community members, have recently learned that the team is not being supported by CUSD to accept the bid to compete and represent Santan Junior High, CUSD, and all Arizona junior high schools at the National level. Main Point: We meet the criterion needed for school board approval.
According to the district policy "out of state travel is approved only when a group is recognized or honored at a state or regional event that allows official representation of the state at a regional or national competition."
Our Goal:
Our goal is to show Chandler youth that their participation in school athletics validates their hard work and achievement with recognition and support from their families, school and community. We are asking the School Board to approve the bid and therefore support our goal.
We do not feel that this support should be held in reserve for high school athletics if a team earns the honor earlier.
We are not asking for any monetary assistance from the school district and will voluntarily sign a waiver absolving CUSD of any liability.
The momentum generated by this petition has surpassed my initial expectations. It is clear that our community values the achievements of these athletes and believes they deserve the opportunity to compete at the national level.

Ridiculous that the school board is standing in the way of kids trying to represent their school on a national stage. Let them compete.

They met the criteria so why is there an issue? Stop holding back our students because of some outdated policy.

If they earned the bid they should go. Especially since the district isnt paying for it anyway. makes no sense to block them.
