For the Mayor or Torbay Council to sell the freehold of Plainmoor is a betrayal of, not just over 100 years of history of Torquay United, but of the Covenant that is applicable to this land, which states that it should remain for "sporting and recreational use", and of the 'Community Interest' status granted to TUST. Rather than this grubby attempt at a short-term financial gain, the only way to ensure that these covenants are upheld for the benefit of all is for Torbay Council to remain the freehold owners. The granting of a long lease enables the club to still borrow money for ground improvements (such as an all-weather pitch), yet prevents the redevelopment of the site by the likes of Gambling International, who have virtually zero interest in existence of Torquay United. In addition, The Spires (formerly Westlands) School have a financial interest in the site, as the new Bristow's Bench stand was built with approximately one third Education money so that the school could use the facilities under the stand. It's time for Councillors to stand up and defend the best known (and loved) 'brand name' in South Devon - namely Torquay United Football Club.

As a Torquay United supporter living in Essex I am one of many home and away football supporters who bring money into Torbay when we travel here for football matches. GI have a record of failing to deliver on the stadia and history shows that to allow them the freehold of Plainmoor is likely to lead to the demise of Torquay United. Our football club means a great deal to many people in Torbay and the mayor must not sell Plainmoor's freehold and allow the club to die.

the club has more value to the town than you realise. i know we are down on our fortune at the moment but it won't always be like that. you honestly do not realise how much money we as fans bring into the bay area. and GL for all their promises will never deliver on a stadium. they have been involved in several sports venues and teams up to now, Both speedway and football and not one stadium has ever come to fruition. I want a reason to be able to come to the bay area not just the holiday period. i come on average 8 times a year mostly staying a few days each time. with no football club I and many of my friends who follow Utd won't come any more. there will be no reason and you will have lost all that income which actually adds up to quite a sum

For nearly a century, Plainmoor has been the home of Torquay United. Generations have grown up supporting their local side there, and the modern Bristow's Bench completed a ground that is more than adequate for the club.

Please don't sell the freehold or leasehold of Plainmoor to these property developers. I have been involved with another club where these people promised the earth yet did nothing. They will spend a lot of money trying to convince you that they will build a stadium yet in the end there will always be excuses as to why they can't. if you need any evidence i can provide plenty

London-based Gull, but look forward to trips to the Bay where, like many others on football-related trips, I hit the bars (and other local businesses) and spend money like a sailor on shore leave to help keep the local economy afloat. Plainmoor; good for the Gulls and good for business!

For the sake of the community both football and non football, it is vital that Gordon Oliver does not sign away the ground before a new ground is built.
