Bring Google Fiber to Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia
Bring Google Fiber to Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia! Internet access is as vital today as it has ever been, and nearly rivals basic utilities, like water and electricity, in importance. However, we're in the middle of a growing crisis. Limited competition between broadband providers is causing us to pay insanely high prices for comparatively slow speeds. Go ahead, look up the speeds countries like South Korea get, and what they pay, and compare that to the providers in the US. I'll wait. Done? Good. You see the problem. Google Fiber is a new undertaking by the global giant to bring truly high speed internet to the masses, at costs that make those of us currently buying broadband weep tears of joy. Pricing and plans is here: https://fiber.google.com/plans/residential/ and here's an article from Ars Technica on the plan http://arstechnica.com/business/2012/07/google-fiber-launches-in-kansas-city/ The reason for this petition is that currently Google Fiber is only available in and around Kansas City. That's not exactly close to DC. Luckily Google has said they will try and bring the Fiber service to places that show interest. So let's show some interest. Share this with everyone you know in the DMV, and try to get them onboard. If you're interested in Gigabit internet for potentially as low as $70 a month, then sign on.
