Going Glocal is a program that used to be available for UCR students. Every year, 15 students were selected to go to Namibia during the summer to do field research on animal reservation land, and work with local big cat and rhino conservation programs. The program consists of two parts: a related and mandatory spring semester course in Middelburg and a subsequent summer course that takes place in Namibia. The last time this was offered was in 2022, but UCR decided to temporarily suspend the programme due to budgetary constraints. As of 2024, there is a chance they will not start the program back up again. This would be unfortunate, because it is an amazing opportunity to put learned knowledge into practice and to gain new and real-life skills in terms of protecting the environment, helping animals, and finding the interconnectedness between people and their world.

The goal of this petition is to revive Going Glocal, by showing that there is enough interest in the program from the student body.
