Going back to school , Distance learning take 2- parents letter to Dr.Giarrizzo

Signed. We were debating registering our kids in a “Better” school district since we own homes but rent them in SyoSset.

I signed this petition because truthfully the district let us down.

I agree with this petition, thank you for being proactive. I personally tried to reach out to my school and district alone and only got a thank you for your email. We love the teachers and this petition does not blame them at all. We all thank you for trying.

Seacliff received way more education than the other schools. I hope the district will help us.

This pandemic may very well be a new way of life, "the new normal", with unexpected school closings on short notice, therefore I believe we need to discuss a Uniform Teaching Model. I have not seen meaningful dialogue on this. I am wondering if there is a plan to NOT have a Uniform Model because that would have provided us as parents with the ability to assess and measure the performance of the schools. (I am NOT making accusations or reaching conclusions, just raising an issue for consideration and dialogue.) Admittedly, this was a new and unanticipated experience for everyone, but going forward we no longer have the luxury of claiming this. I also think the Uniform Model will ensure that the students are receiving education of a similar quality, placing them in relative parity in the ensuing years. Teachers have always had some autonomy when it comes to teaching, and rightly so, however when it results in a marked disparity in the amount of teaching hours the students receive between schools or worse, within one grade at a given school, it becomes ludicrous. I personally witnessed this happening. I also question why the Zoom meetings with the district are scheduled when some very concerned and talented parents are unable to attend. What is going on? This is not an attack on the teachers and never has been. We are advocating for our children to receive an education and I am confused as to why this simple goal is not being addressed. Who inferred that we are attacking teachers? Why is the discussion being reframed? We are simply saying the current approach is failing our students and we need to make some very necessary changes.

Virtual learning did not work well for my child. As a working mom it will be disastrous if this continues in the Fall.

The school has let us down tremendously. School needs to open. The statistics are showing we safe to send our children and the north shore school has not done enough to make sure the children go back to school

This is not about getting schools to open in September, Dr. Giarrizzo and NorthShore School District have to follow the orders of the Governor, it is his decision if school in the state will open up as usual in September. This is about what to do if that does not happen, happens on only a part time schedule and implementing a procedure and protocol should we ever be faced with a situation like this again. No one has ever experienced anything like this in previous years and no one knows if a situation like this will ever come up again. The schools need to be prepared so they can function remotely and with uniformity so our children’s education doesn’t suffer.

Schools need to reopen. Our infection rate was extremely low compared to other towns.

I have three children in the north shore school district and they all three need to go back to school as soon as possible to further their education!! This whole thing has been a disaster for all of us.The neighborhood children are always playing with each other every day in and out of each other’s homes. I don’t see any reason why these children should not be allowed to go back to school in September and start off the year fresh as they always have in the past. Please consider this, and put your best efforts forward to get these kids back to school in September.

This breaks my heart.

Distance learning was a disaster. I would appreciate if Dr. Giarrizzo can make every effort possible to open schools full-time, if there is no spike and we remain in Phase 4. Perhaps Dr. Giarrizzo can make accommodations for parents that feel otherwise and would prefer to keep their kids home. Certainly if the schools are forced to close because of a spike, there should be much more face time with teachers, assignments, etc. 80 minutes a week total, which my son received from his teacher, was ridicules. I understand it took everyone by surprise, however after 2-3 weeks there should of been a better plan implemented for the remainder of the school year. Almost nothing changed from the day they went online to the last day of school.

They absolutely need to go back in person it’s been long enough

NOTE: I had a great experience with Mrs. Burgos in Kindergarten for remote learning. I hope that this continues on with 1st grade through the new teacher for my child.

There is a certain responsibility by our schools and teachers and parents to make sure our children are educated properly! Let’s work together and make sure that happens!
