I think if it's a boy the dad should get Spyridon. If it's a girl she would be named after the mother's mom Elena right? Not fair, she gets her choices either way with Michael? Not fair at all.

WHY not honor BOTH grandfathers? Name the child Spyridon Michael OR Michael Spyridon! IT flows nice together with EITHER way! AND then no more fighting as you BOTH get to be honored!!

It's kind of a big deal for the man to name his son (especially a Greek man!) My son is named after his father (who is named for his father and his father before him). I never thought I would have a "junior" (or a "IV" as this one is), but it was very important to my son. Ten years on, I know this was the right decision. You can always have his middle name be Michael or save that name for your next son. I would defer to my husband on this one.

As a mother of a Michael, I can tell you, it gets tiring seeing so many of them. Spyridon is unique and beautiful. You can always use Michael as a middle name. I've watched both of my sons lose out when getting to name their own children. Dad's should get some say, too!

Agreed on the fact that a traditional Greek name would be better than a typical Anglo-Saxon name. The kid may be teased initially, like I was with my name, but he will find meaning and cultural pride in his name later in life.

If your living in America, think about the child as he /she goes to school kids are mean and getting worse. Give your child a name that won't get him made fun of, Michael Spyridon would work but, as was said he will already be honoring your family with the last name. I suggest if can't agree on this alterative then work together and find a name both of you can agree on even if not a family name.
