I moslty agree with Dad, but what about comprise. My friends wanted Aiden, well before it was popular, to honor a relative. The went with Aiden John so that he could use the plainer middle name if need be. Comprise is important in a long lasting, loving marriage. WHile point 4 is a fair concession, why not comprise here again - she gets first name and you choose second or at least get veto rights. But don't get too crazy, the name needs to sound good, too..That all said, I was one of 3 Jessica's in my K-8th (Central Jersey, thank-you), and one of 5 or 6 in High School. I would have liked something less popular.

Wonderful name with history and meaning. Your son will carry on your last name and therefore should carry your heritage with it. My husbands family is paternal as well (Volga German). The boys are his to name after family, the girls are mine as they will marry into someone else's family. I have a Balthaser and an Aloysius and I Love that they are unique but with meaning! So many people just make-up their kids names anymore.

I think Spyridon is such a memorable and unique name! My mother almost named me Theresa, and it just sounds outdated to me. I have a lot of friends named Jessica, and they all can't stand how common their names are! Don't that be your kid. Also, it's only fair because if it's a girl, then it's named after the baby's maternal grandmother. Plus, I think Kseniya itself is going to be outdated in a century or two anyway, so what's the difference?

My sons names are Maximus and Fenrir, and those names are just starting to gain popularity, the name may take off and you will be ahead of the curve

Thooght this was ridiculous when I read the yahoo headline. But in reading the story, I agree the name, while odd,i is honorable and historic. I respect keeping the ethnic pasts of families alive. Speaking as a Michael, I wish I had a more unique name. Every time I hear someone call out 'hey Mike,' I turn around only to find out they are calling for another Mike. Another of the tens-of-thousands of Mike's in the world. I want my tombstone to read, "I wish my Mom had named me Spyridon"

I support your wife's position. I think u should name your first born son Michael. I genuinely think your son, IF named Spyridon, will be made fun of by his peers growing up. Why do that to your own child? Kids are cruel. I am sure some adults are cruel too. There could be psychological harm done to your son because of the taunting. Why subject your child to that possibility? How about, as Donna Casas suggests, name him Michael Spyridon. This way/weigh honor is paid to your heritage and to two relatives?This is 2015! Get real. IF named Spyridon, the boy will constantly be asked ' Now HOW do u pronounce your name'? Perhaps his nickname growing u will be "Spy". That would be COOL.
