Why not call him Spyridon Michael Soukeras? Then he can go by his middle name. That is a time honored tradition in America. My own father has his father's first name but goes by his middle name. It's a very common solution to honor the grandfather without pissing off mom.

I agree that Michael Spyridon sounds good. In the end you should both have a name that you can both agree on without your blood boiling which is sad that you get that mad over this.

I guess I'm an old fashioned southern woman and Christian. The husband is the head of the household. AND, he is compromising with her on several points. Spyridon Michael will be a great name. We named our son William Oseola after both grandfathers after we could not agree on any other name. My own Father resisted that name because he didn't like his name and said they would call him Billy or Willy. I agreed to make SURE he would never be called that and to this day everyone calls him William. When I'm mad I call him Osci. My Dad nicknamed him Butch at birth (he was 12 pounds) that has stuck on my side of the family. So you see names with family history are GREAT!!! Good luck!!

My ex-husband is Greek and when we were expecting, we also didn't know whether we were having a boy or a girl. He was named after his grandfather, Constantine, and so therefore, if we were to have a boy, he wanted to follow in that tradition and name him Adonis, like his father. I didn't care for that name, thought it was too much pressure.... also, I didn't care too much for my father-in-law either, so maybe that contributed to my dislike. I'm Hispanic, and we wanted a name that would be easy and flow in English, Spanish, and Greek. We settled on Nicolas Adonis. I think the idea here is to compromise. Personally, I like Spyridon Michael

I really think Michael is way over used .. Too common.. Nothing new or unique about it.. I would go with Nick or Spyridon for sure! Maybe it will be a girl !

https://www.yahoo.com/parenting/father-to-be-creates-online-petition-to-settle-116406209757.html Look at the last picture in the article. He is holding her locked to him as if she were his captive. She is leaning away from him. It says a lot about their relationship. That is a classic domination pose. If they cannot compromise on this issue, they will never have peace in their marriage.

My names is Sashenka. Going through the American education system, it was a pain always correcting people of my name. But now as an adult, I am proudly Sashenka. It is unique. I am not often forgotten. Go for it! Especially if wifey gets to pick all the other names.

When i first read the article i really disagreed with naming the baby Spyridon. Kids are mean and why fuel it. But after reading the points and counterpoints i'm leaning to an agreement with the father. I have a cousin with a similarly unusual italian first and second name but David as a third name "just in case". My cousin never changed his name. I'm not sure how ridiculed he was but he turned out great. "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." I do completly understand the rage though. I thought my husband and i would divorce over the name. After our son was born I was able to choose the name because dad was so happy. Good luck. I hope both of you find peace. This might be the time for mom to sit back and choose her battles. There will be bigger issues ahead and she can fall back on this...OFTEN.

Spyridon gets my vote. My son shares both his grandfathers' names. His fist name is the same as his paternal grandfather and his middle name, Michael, is the same as my father. He feels a special connection with them being their namesake. Also, in America we embrace unusual names. Finally, this dad has a sense of humor, given way too many concessions, and this is obviously very important to him, he deserves to name his firstborn son in accordance with his tradition. Now could you explain how to pronounce it (and the child's mother's name, as well!).

Tradition! Greeks have been naming their babies this way for centuries. If the wife doesn't like it, she can remember that a rose by any other name is just as sweet. Her baby will call her Mama and that is all that matters.

My dad, may he rest in peace, was born in Belarus, the youngest of 7 children. He and his siblings came to America as very young children. ALL - 6 boys and 1 sister - are dead now. However, I clearly remember in America they had modern names, not Russian ones. So WHO cares what name Agnew had? What we Americans would remember about him is that scandal years ago. So WHO cares that Putin had a relative named Spyridon? Your wife does not need the stress and aggravation while pregnant regarding the baby's name.. SHE is carrying your baby. Let her choose the name. Again, Donna Casas rightly says what I say. Kids would 'rag on your son' IF named Spyridon. I understand u are proud of your heritage as u should be. However, your wife carries your baby. Let her get her way. Be BIG for her and for the baby. I hope he is healthy and, when old enough to understand, explain the clash over his name. When your son is older, he can choose if he wants to be called Spiro or Mike or Spy or whatever. Honor thee wife and let her choose.

Nicholas Constantine Soukeras , the more I read the more I think you are a control freak and demanding. There is no more tender and loving time in a woman's life than when she is pregnant and preparing for a new life. For you to place demands shows her a sided she has not admitted to herself or possibly seen earlier. The child's name must be a mutual decision. If you were set without compromise about your first born male child's name, you should have come to that negotiation before marriage, not during a womans pregnancy when stress can cause problems. Shame on you. What would your mother say?

There is no "God given authority" in the context of your petition. With any child, you should pick a name that BOTH parents like. If you can not come to a compromise and find a name that you both like, then it is unlikely that you will be able to actually agree on how to parent your child. Child rearing (and naming) is not a contest, where one person wins and one person loses. Pick a name that you both like. If you do not, then you will wind up with one parent hating their own child's name.

Kseniya thinks Spyridon is archaic and weird? Pot meet kettle. At least Spyridon goes well with the last name. A first boy should be named after the paternal grandfather, NOT the maternal grandfather.

So I'm an 8 year old named Michael. Nobody makes fun of me for my name. Now I'm 8 yr. old Spyridon???? What do you think his little friends will call him...I would be terrified as a child under the circumstances. I think that is a cruel thing to do to a child. Name him Michael Spyridon and and call him Mike. Wait until he is an adult and let HIM choose. My Mom is Martha Lorraine. She has never let anyone call her either. She chose a nickname of Mickey. And that was in the 40s. Woulda been a cool name then when most kids usually weren't as cruel as today's kids can be.
