I think you should name him Spyridon Michael. If he doesn't like his first,he can always adjust to the second. But how cool is Spyridon!!

You are making a mountain of a mole-hill! Name the boy either Spyridon Michael or Michael Spyridon. When he's ready for school, let him choose what he wants to be called. You both should be attending an Orthodox Church and should talk to the priest about it. You are creating a division that will last your entire marriage - and the marriage doesn't sound very strong if you are going to the internet to decide on your child's name rather than working it out yourselves. Shame on you both!

I was named after my great gradfather. My great grandfather was named after Pope Leo Xlll. I named my son after my father. We have the same tradition as the greeks, the first born son must be named after the grandfather. It's an important tradition. Don't give it up.

So, big deal. I was teased in grade school over my first name. I'm proud to carry on the name of my forefathers no matter what anyone says. Nicholas obviously wants to raise a traditional son who respects his family's traditions. God Bless him for it. Stick to your guns Nicholas.

Have you considered a compromise with the lady of the house? Especially since it is yours and hers firstborn, lest us not forget she took on your last name - gotta give a little wiggle room on this. What an amazing powerful name: Michael Spyridon Soukeras. That way, little Michael will take that first step into the American name pool, your wife will love you for it, you will be the great compromiser, and all the while holding your namesake. Plus, you can always affectionately call him by his middle name anyways. If you call him it at home, and he likes it, he can carry it on as his pseudo first name forever. Not that this should deter anyone at all, because I do like the name, you can obviously expect the following at school for him if his name is Spyridon: Spidey, Spy, EyeSpy With My Little Eye etc on and on. Telly Savalas (Kojak) brother on the show tried that whole listing of his greek name as just "Demosthenos" for his name back in the 70's.

Nicholas, I'm guessing the child will have your last name. Thereby already honoring your family heritage. Honor your wife's family heritage by giving your wife's and your child a first name after her family. Otherwise, you simply appear to be an egomaniac, jerk who thinks only his family's heritage matters.

Your wife is the one who is carrying this child for 9 months. When you get pregnant, I think you should have more of a say in the name. I agree with John Cameron - the child will have your surname and your wife should get to choose his first name. Why is your father's name any more important than hers?
