Kids with names they can pronounce end up going by a nickname anyways...name him something he can spell, pronounce and use thru life without a nickname in place of!

I Nick's mother and the baby's grandmother. I have known my husband Spiro for 40 years, and I know he will be terribly hurt if our grandson is not named after him.

I understand that with a difficult first name yoursel, Kseniya, you want to spare your son the same aggravation. Even with my lovely but compound name I have to spell it out all the time. BUT I vote for naming him Spyridon because Spy is a very cool nickname that he will probably choose for himself at some point. BUT, Nicholas, give your wife and baby a break and make the middle name Michael. That's called compromise!! That's called loving marriage. And just a comment about bashing Kseniya's native language and unfavorably comparing it to yours: not nice. Try to remember that she is as entitled to her opinion as you are. AS ENTITLED AS YOU ARE. She also has a Godly right to name the child she carries in her belly. The child she will labor to deliver. And if the baby's middle name is Michael and she chooses to call him that, you can call him Spyridon, and he will NOT be confused. Babies are hugely smart and can comprehend that to mama and daddy he has two special names.I hope you will speak both native languages to baby Spy. He will be so fortunate to be multi-lingual. I wish you both happiness and joy over the birth of your son. Raise him with love and respect for each other. That's the best thing you can give your child.

As Nicholas’ sister and this baby’s aunt, I originally wanted to stay out of this. I love both Nick and Kseniya and didn’t want to choose sides. In my life I have seen my father cry exactly two times - when his brother died in 1987 and when our family dog died. I know with all of my heart that he will be crushed if he is not allowed this honor and his name does not live on for eternity. I don’t ever want to see him sad. Also, Kseniya just told me “go ahead and sign, I’m not worried."

We should never forget our ethnicity, for that is what makes our world so rich.
