Godly Right to Name First-Born Son Spyridon

I love the name and the history behind it. We named our 4 boys unique names and do not regret it at all. 80% of people always comment how they love their names (which have become less uncommon after we named them).

We have too many Michaels and not enough Spyridon...name the child Spyridon.

My husband's name is Michael and he hates it. Michael is Too common a name.

Michael is so boring. Everyone's name is Michael. Don't you want your kid to be original? It's not like naming your kid after a country or abstract idea like crazy celebrities do.

I love names that are different and I think any child would be honored to have a family name. I say go for it!!

Michael is a nice name, and also extremely common. Spyridon / Spiro is unique. (Though I will note my Kindle just auto corrected it to "prison"!)

A unique name for a blessed addition. I personally think that a name with familiar and spiritual ties is more important than anam that can be pronounced easily. as you can tell my name is not themost common and i am a woman named after both of her parents married to a nigerian man I am doing good if someone says my first nme right. however the meaning behind my name is beautiful and strong. as i have gotten older i have come to love the symolism of my name if not the fact that it is mispronounced daily

Unique is always special.

I did not name my firstborn son or second son after my father and I regret it to this day. My father passed away after both of my sons were born and I know in my heart that father, who was born in Italy, was deeply hurt. As my sons grew older they would have like to have their grandfathers name. Please ltake your husbands advice.

family names are so important. they give a sense of pride to the family as a whole. Please let you son carry his grandfathers name.

My husband and I are both Greek which definitely makes life so much easier. However, I too had a problem with his fathers name which is Hercules. I could not imagine naming my first baby boy Hercules. So here is what I did to please everyone. Rather than call him Hercules in English, we call him Eric because in Greek the name Hercules is Eraklis. Eric is close enuf. So on his birth certificate it says Eric but on his baptismal certificate we wrote Eraklis. Now my son is 8 years old and has been yelling at me as to why I don't call him Hercules. How ironic!!! But in the end what matters is that you have a healthy and happy baby. No matter what you call him. Spirydon is a beautiful name with rich history. You can shorten it to Spiro and if you really love Michael give him a middle name. Good luck to you both!!!
