Born just a few minutes north of the border to a middle-class family, Governor Martinez is a true American success story and a fierce lifelong advocate for children and minorities.
Early in her political career, she served as Deputy District Attorney in Doña Ana County prosecuting child abuse cases. Martinez was fired after notifying her boss she was going to testify against him in court for corruption. So the following year she challenged him and won with 60% of the vote.
In 2010, Susana Martinez became the first female Hispanic governor in the United States. She has since flipped the state deficit into a primary budget surplus, all without raising taxes. Martinez even successfully removed the word "forcible" from the definition of rape. Complimenting her great working relations with Democrats, this champion conservative enjoys a 69% approval rating as of late 2012.
