Dear Prime Minister Stephen Harper,

I am a concerned citizen. Not just concerned for my rights, but concerned for the rights of others in the world. Right now as you know, there is a genocide going on in the Darfur region of the Sudan. Millions are displaced, thousands dead, and the violence continues. Presently, the Canadian military is in Afghanistan attempting to rebuild what has been destroyed by terrorists, why can we not send peace-keeping troops into Darfur to do the same? They have been undergoing violence and atrocities since 2003 and they deserve to have a chance to live, eat, and sleep in peace as we do in Canada. There are many people who agree with me and see that there is a problem with the way we conduct our aid. We send money, we send food, we send water, but we do not send what they need the most, peace. We have the connections to talk to people and make a difference, as we have done so many times in the past. What I do not understand is why we would say “never again” and refuse to act upon it?

All I am asking of you is that you give a large number of people the chance to live to see another day. I ask that you send peace-keeping troops to the region of Darfur so that they can have a stable, secure, and peaceful life. The United States has passed bills and restrictions that keep them from contact until action on the ground is peaceful. These people deserve the chance to live their lives in the same way we do; in happiness, peace, and prosperity.

Please help and give life to Darfur.

Respectfully,

Your Canadian Population
