We, the undersigned, as residents of the Globe Road Conservation Area, London E2 and its local surrounds, would like to campaign for measures by Tower Hamlets Council to create a slowing of traffic along Globe Road. In particular we are concerned with the section of road in the Conservation Area that passes between Roman Road and Old Ford Road, connecting two more major traffic thoroughfares. Cars and vans do take the road at speed, which is not wise seeing as there is an area of local shops and restaurants, a junior school and two pubs, plus a large section of residential housing along the street. A speed table at the curve of the road seems to do nothing to deter drivers currently - it is shallow and flat-topped, and merely serves to catch the metal of vehicle exhausts and cause further noise. A review of the area would be appreciated, for the potential introduction of a further speed hump earlier along the road, a lowering of the speed limit along the street perhaps, or even re-cobbling of the street to enhance its conservation area status, and discourage the use of it as a rat run for cars between the two larger, busier roads.
