I grew up in Glen Head. I started riding BMX bikes when I was about 12 years old. I am now 30 and still riding my BMX. All my friends and I used to build our own ramps, jumps, grind boxes, etc. and bring them down to the American Legion, where they would stay until some older person would see them and question the importance of them being down there, and have them thrown away. My generation and generations before and after me petitioned for a permanent skatepark somewhere near us. Every time we'd bring it in front of the town, they would say "we'll let you know" or "we'll keep that in mind", only to disregard our claim and build more and more soccer, baseball, football, whatever fields. I think it is an outrage that we have been wanting something like this for so long, yet nothing has been done to make it a reality. Also, make sure that WHEN this skatepark is built, that you allow bikes in as well. The fact that there are skateparks out there that don't allow bikes is ridiculous. There are just as many bikers out there as there are skaters. This skatepark will not only benefit the people who will get to use it, but also the town. If you build a good skatepark, people will come from all over the island to ride/skate it. They will in turn be in the town, spending money at local stores and eateries. Wise up and build a kick ass skatepark for the town and make the people happy. End rant.

Do it. As an adult that grew up in the area skating I wish we had one. It would have made a huge difference for my group of friends when we were younger. Do it for this generation.

this is a great way to keep kids off the street and in a safe place to practice something they enjoy doing without getting in trouble!
