We are a group of individuals in Dumfries who are keen to re-open the closed railway to connect us back again with the West Coast fast rail link to Edinburgh and Glasgow. There are 50,000 people living in and around the Dumfries area who would all benefit from better transport links to our capital city. Our first step is to persuade the Scottish Government to do a feasibility study to look at the costs of three possible routes. We need only 14 miles of new track along a pre-exisiting route to re-establish the link again. For more information, see our website: http://dumfriestolockerbierailway.org/
It’s not just people in Dumfries who will benefit; it’s also people in Edinburgh, like me, and people around the whole country, who will get railway access to Dumfries and the SW of the country, which currently is impossible for anyone (like me, and like 40% of North Edinburgh) who does not own a car.
