University of Pretoria - Give Us Back Our October Recess

I attended all ny classes diligently

It is unrealistic and extremely unfair for those who are ready to write the test to now do it in recess, especially if prior plans have been made, which also cost a lot of money that we have saved to do!

This was not our fault

I had nothing to do with the strikes so I feel like its unfair to punish us

Recess give it back

We want our recess!!

To whom it may concern. I have recently received communication regarding the postponement of the scheduled tests due for the week of the 19th of September. The information communicated explained that these scheduled tests would be moved to the week of October the 3rd (the scheduled recess). There are a few major concerns regarding this predicament. Firstly, The students of The University of Pretoria have not received a break since the mid year recess (which were incidentally cut short due to further industrial action). Many of the well proclaimed universities around South Africa received at least a week break since that recess and have had time to reflect on academic performance and endeavor. UP students on the other hand, have not received such a break. Secondly, many of the students have organized to go away for various reasons during the scheduled October break. I specifically have already paid for flights and accommodation during this time and not only does this affect me, but it also affects my entire family. Unfortunately the strike actions are beyond anyone's control and I fully understand that. However I think the statement should be reaccessed and taken into the consideration the number of people this will affect. I feel that the October recess should remain intact as initially scheduled and if need be the December recess must be looked at and considered to be shortened.
