University of Pretoria - Give Us Back Our October Recess

For Christ's sake just sign the petition and move on with your lives, some of the comments here are really unnecessarily dramatic, condescending and pathetic. Do you guys really think those striking students also don't want a recess, do you think people wanna just toi toi to miss class, you honestly think those students striking ain't "hardworking" students like you (some even doing better than you...facts)???? These are struggling students who unlike you don't really have a choice but to fight a system which is unfair to them. Noone was hurt on campus, no building was destroyed. You will get your recess and you will go to your "holidays" and "tickets" won't be wasted. Don't be mean and hasteful all cause your pretty little lives are bn falsely Inconvenienced. Sign the petition and let the students striking fight for a cause they believe in. I swear some of you were birthed by the devil. And sad that this is the future of the country, so much for that rainbow nation they sold us. Bye. PS. I was not involved in the strike, but I do not in anyways throw names at people fighting for a struggle that never affected me in my little dear old privilege.

We want our Recess

I'm getting me self a bloody holiday (said in a British ascent) And I need to be one with the ocean.

We need this recess to study, some of us have test after test when we reopen. we also promised our families to spend time with them

They should have just not said they will increase the fees that's all. We were studying peacefully.

October recess should be required for students to spend time with there families

Have a youth tour which I knew about and planned for since March, and have 2 semester tests the 1st 2 days of the new term.

A suggestion would be to extend the school block into December or use Saturdays to make up for lost days, rather than take away the October recess at such short notice.

We seriously need a break, a student can just take in so much of school at one go.

Give us back our recess.

A holiday is necessary for students to function at full potential. It is not the fault of the magority of the students for the protesting. Record lectures and put them online if lecturers are falling behind on work
