Deeply saddened and outraged by this news. Political and land rights are critical foundations for protecting the human rights of the community of Saweto.

Please give legal title ownership to the Saweto community of Asheninka in Peru. Protect your own first, original citizens by doing the right thing. Land tenure is the original human right!

This is truly an abomination. The human rights of indigenous communities in the Peruvian-Brazilian borderlands have been under attack for centuries and now, two of the most energetic, progressive leaders have been murdered in cold blood. The Peruvian state is obligated to protect these lands, communities and individuals. The guarantee of land tenure is the a necessary element of this process and one that needs to be followed up with a series of other actions that will guarantee not only human rights, but the right to live for those under threat.

I hope the illegal loggers are in prison a long long time to show they cannot commit these crimes and get away with it. So sad and tragic

These forests support the Saweto community and the community supports the forest. The world should recognize and preserve the value of these people and this forest. We should help them live sustainable and ethical lives by granting them recognized rights to the land as long as they are good for the Earth.

These people should be given the opportunity and right to use their land for their own benefit instead of having its long term health and productiveness destroyed by outsiders.
