SB 384 would allow – but not require - local governments to allow bars and nightclubs to serve alcohol past 2 am and up to 4 am. Also known as the LOCAL Act (Let Our Communities Adjust Late Night), SB 384 is moving through the State Assembly and we need your help to get it across the finish line.
Authored by Senator Scott Wiener (SD11), SB 384 was passed by the California State Senate, and now must be voted on in the Assembly in late August or early September.
SB 384 simply allows cities to opt in: pure local control. This optional tool for local control over nightlife will increase tax revenue and tourism, revitalize business districts, and support nightlife culture in our cities.

I am 100% on board for this. I hail from New York City and have lived in Downtown LA for the last ten years. I have been fortunate to be a part of and witness the inspiring growth of our food and beverage industry. Allowing businesses to serve until 4am would allow downtown to continue to define itself as a cultural and nightlife destination.
Bars and venues in LA are already open that late, the only thing it would change in my perspective is that serving alcohol until later may keep the patrons in the venues until later thus supporting the smaller acts that usually close shows for a smaller crowd that generally leaves after alcohol stops being served
Having nightlife is essential to a city's well-being and culture.. 2AM has always been much too early; that's when the party starts! But really, keep it up longer :)
I support this bill because now with the advancement of Uber and Lyft, there is no excuse for drinking and driving. Extending the hours of operation will increase business and not be a safety concern.
Let's this happen! I work late usually till 11-12 by the time I get out most places are closing down :/ just want to have a good time and blow off some steam with great music after work

It's time that California, and more specificaly LA, SF and SD can compete on the same level all the others big cities in the country. Whether it attract more tourism, bring more taxes, it can only be a good thing.
