Give Felons a Second Chance
In life we all make mistakes. Once that mistake is made; it is sometimes difficult to correct it follows you for the rest of your life. Many people have committed crimes, were arrested, paid their dues, and have never been in trouble again. But if your first time was a felony charge; you will be haunted with that for the rest of your life. I was arrested at the age of 21 for Resisting an Officer with Violence; my first offense. Adjudication was withheld, I did 2 years probation took an Anger Management class, did community service, as well as paid fines. It is going on 13 years and this is still following me. I have never been in trouble again after that, I have two sons, and I just graduated from college with a Bachelors in Criminal Justice but I cannot get my career going because of this charge. I was told I am not a convicted felon by the courts but when agencies do a background check a felony is what they see. I would like a law to pass so that persons such as myself can be given a second chance at life. I do not think that it is fair that I am ridiculed because of something that happened when I was younger. I am not that type of person. So if I can get this to go through I am sure I would be helping not only myself but millions of other people who are going through this same situation.
