On 08 Oct 2011 Specialist Bradley Keatts and several others were setting up a tactical command post in Afghanistan when they were hit with rocket propel grenades and small arms fire. Specialist Keatts, among a few others, was wounded (2 others were killed). Spc Keatts suffered from a gun shot wound on his upper left arm. He received 9 stitches and went to work the next day. He was now eligible for the Purple Heart Award. The papers were filled out and submitted and came back to him about a month later saying he was not eligible for the award due to the fact he is flagged for being overweight. Spc Keatts was flagged BEFORE deploying to Afghanistan for being overweight. In my opinion, if he is able to DEPLOY while flagged, GET SHOT while flagged, and suffer panic attacks and flash backs of the events, then he should be able to get this award. If being flagged stops him from getting this award, then why did they allow him to deploy flagged! Please help this soldier get what he deserves!

I am truly overwhelmed by the way this story has moved so many people. This momentum belongs entirely to you because you chose to stand up for a soldier when it mattered most.

HOW IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE?? He took a bullet for his country and they are denying it over paperwork? Shameful.

The military bureaucracy is a joke sometimes. The guy got shot and he deserves the purple heart plain and simple. Thanks for your service Bradley.

This is total garbage. He was in a war zone doing his job and bleeding for this country. Being overweight has nothing to do with him getting shot by the enemy. Give him his medal.

unbelievable. if he was good enough to deploy then he is good enough to be recognized for his sacrifice. fix this now.

My heart breaks for him. He went through so much and he still has to deal with this nonsense. Just give him the award he earned it.
