Girls Matter Harpeth Hall

I fear this substantial change in Harpeth Hall's mission, heritage, and character being made without consulting alumnae, parents, and longtime donors was intentional in an effort to avoid hearing and responding to any protests or concerns from those who question the extremity of this change. The honorable thing to have done is to have faced those concerns head on and tried to persuade while listening to and considering opposing viewpoints. Harpeth Hall's failure to make this effort indicates that the mission and values of the school have already changed. If I am incorrect in this belief, I urge the school to do the right thing and hear and consider those who oppose this change for various reasons.

It is sad that an issue of such import to the entire Harpeth Hall community was not first presented to parents, alumnae and the students themselves, with the ability to express their concerns and disapproval, before making the Ill advised decision in such a public manner.

Beautifully stated & as a long-time, active, every year since my Graduation which was a while ago, I am deeply concerned as well as my almost 94 yr young Momma Dollye Clayton for whom I am signing on her behalf with her request as well!

While I teach university students without regard to gender, I strongly feel that Harpeth Hall should remain dedicated solely to girls who were born girls and identify as girls. There remain options within the community for families who need different choices.

Obviously there has been a error in judgement in sending out a communication about a subject that is causing unnecessary anxiety. The vast majority of families believe in the mission of Harpeth Hall education for girls born that way at birth and not get caught up in a subject that is at best a very private matter. There is more that binds us than separates us so without casting any stones it would be best to clarify the position of the school consistent with the above and move on.

HH has earned over generations something that can not be bought, a strong and lengthy tradition of educational excellence for young women steeped in building character. It’s leadership has inexplicably put this at risk. I hope this gaffe can be corrected and that the solution includes stopgaps for future sophomoric actions such as this.

As a 1982 graduate of Harpeth Hall, I am astounded that Harpeth Hall did not consult the alumni. I 100% support this petition and hope that Harpeth Hall will respect our concerns.

The fact that Harbeth Hall was a girl school made me strong and willing to take challenges. I teach high school and I see the difference in girls in a Coed school and a girl school. Harbeth Hall needs to stay all girls

Class of 1994. I firmly support the LGBTQ community and also recognize institutions cannot be all things to all people. This policy is an unnecessary distraction that takes away from the learning environment and simultaneously abandons the greater HH community.

HH - you gave parents ZERO voice in this matter and announced the policy change less than 1 week before school starts, almost like you knew the majority would disapprove. Quit the nonsense and act like you got some common sense. I used to be a proud parent to pull onto that beautiful campus each day - now I’m just worried about what other slanted ways of thinking you could be putting in our kids minds. Save your legacy while you still can..

We love and accept all kids and there are plenty of schools that will take them, but Harpeth Hall should only have females with female genitals as students, especially in the locker rooms, so the current females are heard and not forgotten.

I’m horrified that Harpeth Hall would make a decision like this one .
