I am in favor of not changing the current ordinance which calls for no wake hours after 4 pm

I fish Gilas lake several times a year. No need to change the no wake time. Lake is small enough to get from place to place going a no wake speed.

We enjoy being able to fish without dealing with wakes, because of the size of the lake it does not provide the opertunity for both fishing and skiing at the same time, seems that the current schedule allows the opportunity for both types of activities, extending the times for skiing would substantially reduce the ability to fish or relax on the water

We enjoy the quiet hours the most on the lake, they should stay as they have been!

The 4 pm wake time should be retained. Having spent my summers on Gilas lake for the last 20 years, it’s interesting to experience the flow of activity on and around the lake. Gilas supports such a diverse population, including water skiers, fishermen, families, campers, day users, locals, hunters, vacationers, and even more wildlife than many neighboring lakes can boast of. The lake’s key to the ability to support this is in the quiet retreat it offers. It should be managed as a multiple-use resource and the current wake time of 4pm is necessary to keep all interests balanced.

No need to change the hours. The quiet time from 4pm-10am allows for calm waters without boats/jet skis zooming around. Growing up having summers on Gilas Lake, the pre and post-wake were always enjoyed the most. I hope my children get to experience the same stillness this special lake offers. It isn't big enough to have extended wake hours.

I’ve just heard that the wake hours on Gilas Lake may be changing. How surprising and disappointing! I have vacationed on Gilas many times over the past years. The long-standing 4pm wake time has always given us plenty of hours to enjoy the most active play with the boat and other motorized watercraft. We wind down afterward enjoying the peace of a late afternoon with the loons, ducks, and ospreys that depend upon Gilas for a safe and healthy habitat. Expanding the wake-allowed hours outside 10AM-4PM will reduce the quieter habitat time essential to these beautiful members of the Gilas community. Gilas is a smaller lake than many and the higher speeds that make for boat wake can compromise the safety of everyone of this small lake. Why add to that risk by expanding hours to 6pm? Allowing longer wake hours also has a proportionately larger impact on shore erosion, water trash and exhaust pollution as those factors affect the plant and animal life of Gilas. Lastly, I am surprised that a majority of lake residents would want the noise from higher boat speeds and the accompanying human activity continuing right up to the dinner hour. I strongly encourage town & lake leaders to reconsider the idea of changing the no-wake times. Please choose instead to leave the no-wake hours as 10AM-4PM and preserve the natural health, beauty and recreational properties of Gilas Lake for its wildlife, its recreational boaters and those who live and play on the shore.

WE already lost the Herons, schools of small Bullhead fish, large turtles, Otters, etc. We have had a pair of nesting Loons here for a long time & with all the activity seeing them less & less. What a shame.

I have been a frequent visitor to this beautiful, clean lake. I have several concerns with the additional time that high power motorized vehicles will be allowed on the lake. The shoreline and the people on it, will end up bearing the brunt of the energy that a wake produces. Excessive wakes from boat motors and personal watercraft can exacerbate shoreline erosion and create an unsafe environment for swimming and wading. Metals, hydrocarbons and other pollutants from the motors will change the water quality, affect the aquatic ecosystems in the lake and it’s nutrient status. Furthermore, waves and wake cause disturbance of fish and wildlife on the lake, water clarity and human enjoyment by causing noise, air quality disturbance and safety concerns. It is my hope that the committee overseeing the extension of hours of high power motorized vehicle traffic on the refuse to add hours. Those who choose to use the lake quietly also should have time to do so. At present high power motorized vehicles have more hours to enjoy Gilas Lake than those choosing to use the lake with lower impact motors or non motorized vehicles. It makes sense to have some time on the lake for each segment of the outdoor loving community to enjoy such a lovely lake.

The fact that the hours were changed without any notice is a big issue. Wake time of 10 am - 4 pm is perfect. Absolutely no need to go to 6:00. Our 3 year old and his cousins love the playtime hours right before and after dinner. And earlier in the morning without big waves.

Seems backwards they would have a meeting to answer for changing the hours instead of having an advertised meeting for people to go and discuss the possibility of a change. Some people just struggle with reason.
