One of the most overlooked players in the history of baseball. 10th all-time in home runs at the time of his retirement, second during the 1950s in the National League in home runs and RBIs, a multiple Gold Glove winner (who would have won more had the award existed earlier), a two-time world champion and a world champion as a manager. I believe he has been forgotten about because he died so young.

I do not understand the hall of fame veterans commitee. Gil Hodges deserves to be in the Hall. One of the few players to hit 4 Homers in one hame. He played well in all of the world series games. The manager of the miracle Mets in 1969.

Hodfes contributions to the sport we all love should be enough alone but when you include his stats he should already be immortalized in Cooperstown. it is only a tra esty when the Baseball HOF does not recognize the greatest players for generations to come.

Gils numbers might not seem so great compared to todays players but it must be taken into consideration that when Gil retired he led the national League in homeruns for a righty hitter.He iwas a mench on and off the field and epiomizes the meaning of the word fine character.
