Mr. Hodges should have been in the HOF 30 years ago.

His baseball accomplishments alone more than qualify him for Cooperstown. Add to that his self-sacrifice and bravery and you have the ultimate Hall of Famer!

His on-field performance was Hall of Fame quality; his managing was, well, miraculous, his service to our country must be recognized as well.

In the last 3 years I have heard nothing but continuous praise of Gil Hodges not from his family but from baseball fans and fellow players. He truly does deserve it and wouldnt it be fabulous if his wife was able to witness his induction.

Greenberg, Perez, & Cepeda were all first-basemen, and they are all in the Hall of Fame. Greenberg has 331 HR's, Cepeda and Perez have 379. Hodges had 370. So, he's got more than Greenberg, and almost as many as Perez and Cepeda. (Perez played 5 more years than Gil did, too!) Gil was an 8-time All Star, a 3-time Gold Glover, and had 7 consecutive seasons with 100 or more RBI between 1949, and 1955. He's also 1 of only 16 players who've hit 4 HR's in a game in the last 145 years. He won 2 World Series rings as a player, and 1 as a manager. He managed the 1969 Mets, a team with an overall season's batting average of .243, to a World Series title. His brilliant two-platoon system got 99 RBI out his right-fielders, and 87 RBI out of his first basemen. He has just as many World Series titles as a manager as Whitey Herzog, with far less post season appearances. In fact, it is generally thought here in NY that the Mets and their organization would have remained at or near the top of their division and the NL if Gil hadn't passed away suddenly at the age of 17. This man deserves to be in the Hall of Fame because of his career numbers alone. But, what he did as the manager of the 1969 Mets, winning the World Series with a team that never finished above .500 in it's entire history, and never finished above 9th place, was simply amazing and only solidifies his worthiness of the Hall. Undo this 42 year injustice and put Gil Hodges in the Hall f Fame NOW!
