Boo on the writers, boo on the Veterans' Committee. Hodges should have been elected years ago. Between his Dodgers' playing time and his managing of the Mets, he easily met HoF standards.

Gil meets all the criteria for Hall of Fame induction. Exemplary character and integrity, his contributions at First Base, RBI's, and Home Runs contributed immensely to the many pennant wins and 1955 World Series win for the Brooklyn Dodgers and he was a significant factor in the Los Angeles Dodgers winning their first World Series in 1959. Not to mention his winning the first three Gold Gloves ever awarded to a First Baseman.

Gil Hodges belongs in the Hall of Fame. There is no question. His contributions to the game on and off the field alone should make the difference. His heroic actions as a Marine in World War II should also be considered. His enshrinement was literally taken away by one caustic man....Ted Williams...with a chip on his shoulder. It is time to right this injustice.

Gil Hodges was not JUST a hitter and fielder. Perhaps his numbers don't, technically meet Hall of Fame standards. But he was a role model for kids, he was a super manager, he was a denizon of Brooklyn whose house. as kids, we all passed in awe, and he was a superior human being.....modest, fair, considerate, and inspiring. The Hall of Fame should not be only about numbers....it should look at the WHOLE ball player. And when Gil Hodges' (tragically short) life is examined, the thoughts and memories which are brought to mind are representive of both a superior Majr Leaguer and a superior human being. If Gil Hodges is not in the Baseball Hall of Fame, its meaning and significance is diminished.

Gil Hodges was a premier slugger in the National League in the 1950s, the best first baseman of his generation inovating modern techniques for fielding the bunt, and all-around fine man.
