They actually said yes and the new housing policy is really happening which feels kind of surreal to type out. I am honestly just staring at the wall right now because this whole thing was a massive headache but we somehow navigated the bureaucracy and won. Keep an eye on …
Gender-inclusive housing allows students to choose their roommates regardless of sex or gender identity. This policy aids students who may identify on the trans* spectrum or outside the gender binary or who may feel more comfortable rooming with someone of a different gender for whatever reason. Most importantly, if MIT as a whole were to officially include gender-inclusivity in its overarching housing policies, then all admitted and current students would know that MIT’s housing system is one that will welcome them.
I was just staring at the progress bar and it is moving but my brain is spinning about how much more we need to show the administration that this is a real campus priority. Please go pull up that link and send it to someone who has not seen this yet because we really need this momentum to peak before we hit that first hundred mark.

Housing that is safe and provides the environment in which a student feels comfortable should be a main goal of MIT. Gender-inclusive housing plays a critical in meeting that goal.

its been 4 years since a push for this started. MIT should be ahead of the curve on these socially progressive issues, not behind the times. Columbia has it!

As VP of DormCon, I hoped to see GIH implemented at MIT soon. I'm glad to see that students are still working toward this goal, and I hope DSL seriously considers GIH in order to welcome all students to MIT.

At pika, I have a roommate of the opposite gender because we thought we'd be compatible roommates. We get along well, and it's not weird! :)
