I love reading the Trib on-line. But, I have quit reading the comments as they are always from the same idiots having nothing worthwhile to say and arguing with one another. Maybe the comments will be more worthwhile and more civil if they have to use their real names.

I agree with Fr. Jared. It's far too easy to be ignorant (to ignore the facts) and be rude when one is anonymous.

Holding people accountable for their actions - which is precisely what commenting in on-line forums is - is something we should encourage. We should be free to voice our opinions as long as we're willing to admit others may not agree, and the idea of genuinely open dialogue should be promoted.

As a regular columnist in the Tribune, I welcome the exchange of ideas—but only if people are willing to put their real names behind their words. It's time.
