Def Leppard are one of the best rock/metal bands to have come out of the UK.

After forming in Sheffield in 1977, they released two major albums in the 1980s namely 'Pyromania' (1983) and 'Hysteria' (1987) which have since gone down in rock history as epics and gave the world such hits as Photograph, Rock Of Ages, Foolin' (Pyromania) and Animal, Hysteria, Love Bites and Pour Some Sugar On Me (Hysteria).  After the death of Steve Clark in 1991, the band released the album 'Adrenalize' in 1992 and performed at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert and were the first band to play the then new Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield in 1993.

Despite not being quite as big as they were in the 1980s, today Def Leppard are nevertheless still touring and have a new album set for release in 2011.  They headlined last year's Download Festival in Castle Donington, at which they played in front of over 70,000 people and gave a commanding performance despite most of the band being over 45 years of age!

As a fan of Def Leppard and rock music, since I was about 7 years old, they have very much been a big part of my life and I am as excited hearing their music now aged almost 25 as I was growing up in my parent's old flat in South Wales.  I have seen Def Leppard live five times, and am looking forward to seeing them again next year.

My hope is that Def Leppard will consider playing a concert at Swindon's County Ground Stadium.  The reasons being:

1) It is a fantastic stadium, and can easily host a big 'outdoors' concert.  Bryan Adams has played there before, and Bon Jovi almost did a concert there before choosing to play in Southampton.

2) It would be a great event for the town of Swindon, which has suffered due to a bad image put around in the media.  Swindon, I find, is a vibrant and friendly town and having one of Britain's best ever bands playing there would surely be a big boost for the town as a whole (not a hole...)

3) Swindon Town FC, who play at the County Ground, are a team on the up - and hosting a big concert with local people and fans can only be beneficial for them.   If the concert was held in May/June 2011, it would not interfere with their football schedule and I'm sure the owners would be delighted to be associated with such a famous band as Def Leppard.

So if Joe, Rick, Sav, Phil or Vivian is reading this - first of all hello and thanks for taking the time to read this, and secondly please consider Swindon as a possible UK venue for your upcoming tour.

All the best and Swindon LET'S GET ROCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
