This petition is to the local government of West Carrollton and to Mayor Sanner. The undersigned demand the removal of speed/red light cameras in West Carrollton, Ohio and the repeal of any codified ordinance supporting speed/red light cameras. The reason for this is that they are not owned/operated by the city and are unconstitutional in nature. They are operated by an out of state company in Arizona who sends these "citations" to citizens demanding payment of a fine. A good portion of these "fines" go to that company. So it is in the company's best interest to "catch speeders and red light runners" These cameras have no effect on safety and in some cases have even been the root cause of accidents (people slowing suddenly to avoid the camera) They are, as stated before, a violation of the U.S. constitution (5th 6th and 14th amendments) due to the fact that they force a person to prove their innocence rather than use due process where the burden of proof lies upon the state. Furthermore, the ordinance that states a person's property can be towed or immobilized for 2 or more unpaid "offenses" is a violation of the 4th amendment due to the inherent unconstitutional nature of the cameras themselves. These must be removed and liberty must prevail. We the people should not be paying millions of dollars to a company who's best interest is to make criminals of us! Take down the speed cameras!
