As an avid leafs fan I have decided to create a petition calling for the removal of the NHL shootout rule. As many hockey fans know, the Toronto Maple Leafs are 0-5 in shootouts this year, and this is not because they are extremely bad at shootouts. It means everyone besides Tyler Bozak is, but that's besides the point. It is because the shootout is a talent show, a skills competition. A valuable point to go to the playoffs should not rely on one players ability to spin in a circle and stuff the puck in the net. After all, hockey is a team sport and should be treated that way. Should tied baseball games count on a Home Run Derby to decide who wins the game ? No, it should not. So join me in my quest to fix the 8 year rule that should not have lasted more than 8 days.
