Homework is excessively assigned by many teachers in high schools across the world. High school students have a lot on their plate- they are going through changes, finding themselves, deciding what path in life they want to take and who they want to take it with, and not to mention balancing sports, a social life, and other responsibilities. All of this together becomes a lot for someone to handle, and the addition of homework can make it all too much. High school students often spend hours every night doing homework (even on the weekends). This restricts the amount of sleep the student is getting, which in turn decreases their ability to concentrate, learn, and do the other things they need to do. High school students are still children, and they need more sleep than adults do.

Studies have proven that homework is virtually ineffective in the learning and understanding of a topic by a child. So why is homework still assigned? Students should be learning and understanding all material in class. Sending a student home to do work on a topic they don't understand will cause frustration and decrease their motivation and confidence in their abilities.

It's time to take a stand and realize the importance of getting rid of homework. Homework is actually unhealthy and unbeneficial. Let your voice be heard and sign this petition.
