Get rid of Carlton Kirby

Kirby has never been either 'educating' or 'entertaining'. Much of what he says is fanciful or simply made up. Just about all of it is excruciating drivel. As for alliteration, anyone can be a bumbling, babbling, boorish buffoon.

He is awful and makes watching worse. Rob and Dan are fantastic, more of them.

I work for GCN and I find him annoying. Plus all of the comments we get about him are hard to keep up with.

A bicycle road race usually unfolds over many hours and for much of that time not much happens. Think, decanting good red wine. Much better the longer you leave it. So the commentator has lengthy broadcast periods of inactivity to fill. David Duffield was a master of this and probably criticised to a similar extent. But it often was educating and entertaining even if accompanied by frequent eye-rolls. CK fulfils the same role. He is accompanied by the likes of Sean Kelly, Dan Lloyd, Matt Stephens, etc. to provide the factual cycling knowledge and background that you decry him for. That is a misunderstanding of his role. I can’t think if any other sport that requires the skill to provide a structured background for perhaps 6 or 7 hours. OK, cricket maybe, but there stuff happens more often than in a bicycle race where a highlight of an hours racing may be a “tout on the bidon”. I enjoy his spoken word, his ability to spontaneously alliterate, his daft analogies and even his accidental partridgeisms. It adds a characterful dynamic to an oft slowly unfolding landscape.

I thought I was the only one thinking this man has no business commenting professional cycling races. I hope this petition will serve its purpose.

I can't take any more. I subscribed to Gcn to watch uninterrupted cycling but when he is comentating watch on eurosport is the better option as the adverts give a break from his banal and inane comments

Agree with everything in the description and most of the comments. I would add that he continually interrupts other commentators (who have more cycling experience and insight than him) to say pointless things. This is infuriating.

Absolute rubbish. It'd be a great loss not to hear Carlton Kirby's dulcit tones and great commentary.

Mr. Kirby does a disservice to the sport of cycling by not covering the races and the athletes in a thorough and respectful way. Rather what the spectator gets, is a cliche-filled non-stop stream of consciousness where Carlton also comes across as racist and UK-centric.

Shocking lack of knowledge of cycling, a real life Partridge with similar self awareness. How does Sean Kelly put up with it??
