Totally biased towards UK riders. Gets riders wrong. Never mentions the coarse colonials haha. In short, he is an inconsequential, pompous, unreconstructed stuffed shirt

"Magnus have you ever pounded your apples?"
Or peak Patridge "those calves like fozen chickens"
Or the three years he was convinced Louis Meintjes was going to win every race

Just started watching cycling and couldn’t understand why my husband swears so much about Carlton Kirby. Now I see/hear what sets him off....Kirby talks utter garbage at times - recent example suddenly started on about satsumas!!! Hatch is quite good, Blythe, Been and Lloyd even better and top summariser/expert is Magnus Backstedt. Please, just lose Kirby.

As others have said nothing personal but really not great commentary. The persistence with terrible word play jokes based on riders names is the worst thing for me. The ex riders are showing what we really want to see, like Matt Stephens and Adam Blythe who as a newcomer is a natural and has really hit the ground running and set the standard.

Even Brian Smith said he has a mute button for Carlton Kirby. Good quality commentary makes for a great experience. Poor quality commentary completely spoils it. When we have such skilled and knowledgeable cycling commentators, is it time to give someone else the mic?

Very polarizing, new fans to the sport will be turned off. I tried to show my sister a race and she couldn't get over the fact that he "was constantly trying to be funny but just came off as mean."

Just want proper cycling commentary not boring rubbish. The fans know their sport and want proper commentary not what flavour cheese is found in this region on whatever Carlton is waffling on about. Nothing personal sure he’s a alright bloke but I’m not paying to listen to him - you’ll lose subscribers

Now well past his 'sell by' date. Outperformed by Dan Lloyd and Adam Blyth and others. Far too many repeated clichés and personal remarks about individual cyclists. Technical knowledge appears to be nil and there are no technical discussions during his commentaries. I too am glad I have a mute button. Along with other gossips (the main one being Rob Hatch) gives away spoilers about races I have not yet watched on Eurosport 'catch up'
Time to go Carlton.

Calton Kirby is a terrible commentator made for horse racing, let's get him back there so we can enjoy cycling on Eurosport.

Kirby is a distraction whilst watching the cycling coverage, he rambles, um’s & r’s and worst of all he laughs at his own stupid jokes which are not funny.
Leave the commentary to ex pros who know the sport like Dan Lloyd & Adam Blyth. P.S. sack Rob Hatch as well as he’s just a baby Kirby.

Awful, useless excuse for a commentator. Like listening to someone's creepy, half-cut, inappropriate old uncle doing a stint on hospital radio. Has no idea what he's talking about and consistently ruins the experience of watching racing. This clueless, idiotic old fool needs to go.

On a number of levels this commentator reflects poorly on the credibility of Eurosport/GCN. Unfortunately, he does not appear to have the requisite knowledge and professionalism to undertake what is a challenging role. He significantly influences my enjoyment of the sport and on a number of occasions I have chosen to watch races on mute. Eurosport and GCN coverage of cycling is superb, with a team of brilliant presenters, commentators and pundits, unfortunately Mr Kirby is the weak link in this team.
