Watching the Turkey Tour, and here he is again, laughing at his own jokes. I mean, if GCN wants to keep him, okay, but why don't they tell him that his joking around is just plain not funny. And then the constant "um". A lot of people complain, so why don't they tell him to change his comments...?

Sick to death of his inappropriate remarks that have nothing to do with cycling. He thinks he's funny but he's not, he's offensive

I’d already contacted GCN before seeing this. CK’s commentary really does spoil good coverage and I’ve found myself fast forwarding through events to avoid his words. The recent European Championships highlighted just how bad it is. Together with Pippa York it was truly awful.

Extremely irritating word salad style of commentating. Often speaks before engaging brain with a result that his ‘musings’ are incorrect and/or insulting. The retired cyclists who actually understand the sport are far more engaging and relevant. He does not know when to remain quiet and let the race we are watching do the ‘talking’.

He is pompous and laughs at his own jokes way too much. He also is not culturally sensitive and often is demeaning to riders and to the areas through which they are riding. He uses the commentary platform to promote his own books. He is usually more focused on himself than the race.

I’m currently watching the Croatia stage race on Eurosport. Kirby is commentating with Pippa York.
As usual he is hogging commentary time. Also, he is wandering off topic and talking about things not connected with the race in hand and trying to show how clever and knowledgeable he is. He also asks co-commentators inane questions which are nothing to do with bike racing and trying to make them look less knowledgeable etc.
When he goes off topic I start shouting at the tv “verbal diarrhoea!” and press the mute button on the remote.
I wish Eurosport would dispense with his services. Other commenters are far better than him.

Carlton spoils every stage of the vuelta with his inaccuracies, talking over others, building fake excitement when nothing is happening and making it the Carlton Kirby show. It,s tiring listening to him. Please do something about him or next year I'll be gone.

We are watching the Vuelta quickly on catch up. My wife and I are both convinced that we could to a better job. He rambles inconsequentially and for a sports commentator he knows almost nothing about the sport. Ruins it for everyone.
David Millar and Ned seem not to be gainfully employed during the vuelta - why not get them?

The one thing I cannot bear is his endless smug “knowing” laughter about irrelevancies. Oh, and saying “what a day!” every single day! He just loves the sound of his own voice too much.
When teamed up with the equally awful Sean Kelly and his monotone whiny voice, I can barely watch the Vuelta nowadays. So irritating!
His coverage compared to that from the excellent Ned Boulting and David Miller is woeful.

Vuelta 2023 appalling commentating, no relevant information, only gossip, making fun of riders, praising Remco million times, even at the end hinting at Kuss drinking (what was that????)
