The Sheriff has confirmed that Officer Deane will be reinstated as the Resource Officer at William Monroe High School. We have secured a formal commitment from the department regarding his transition back to the role. I will continue to monitor the situation until he is physically back on campus.

Officer Kevin Deane was one of if not the best Resource Officer William Monroe High School ever had. He had connected with the students very well and made sure that students stayed out of trouble as much as possible. Recently the Sheriff for Greene County was reelected and let go Officer Deane and several officers without explanation. This is a petition to get Officer Deane his job back as a Resource Officer at WMHS.

I have finalized a formal request for an explanation regarding the termination of these officers and am coordinating delivery to the Sheriff's office. Counsel is currently reviewing the employment statutes relevant to the Sheriff's recent staffing decisions to determine our next legal steps.

What is the county and sheriff Smith going to do when all these young adults take a stand and protest out side of the school till they rehire Kevin Deane! I will stand by my child for standing up for what she believes in and I would hope that every other parent would too.
I have known Kevin for years, and looked forward to his presence in the school with my oldest son soon to be in WMHS. An explanation for his dismissal is warranted, particularly with the mitigating circumstances. I demand transparency and honesty from all elected officials.
Officer Deane is the best officer at the school he actually cares about us and talks to the kids at the school as to the other officers come in and just stare at us I'm really upset and un happy about this I'm in 10th grade and want him back in the school now
I know Kevin on a personal level not associated with the school and know his passion. The department and the school have lost one of the best who still believes in helping others rather than just getting a paycheck.
I went to Monroe last year as a senior, Officer Deane was the best resource officer that school had in my 4 years there he connected with the students better than others and people confined and trusted in him more than the teachers or other staff

In a time in history when so many conflicts occur between the public and law enforcement, this is a sad event. Any individual who can work with high school students and earn their respect is a blessing to the community.
