The school admissions board contacted us this morning to confirm that they have overturned their initial decision and offered Mia a place at Alder. This reversal confirms the information we presented regarding the local intake discrepancies. My focus now shifts to ensuring the enrollment paperwork is processed correctly so she …
Mia is in year six, she had applied early for high school. Alder had been her first choice as she is at one of the entry schools. Unfortunately she was the only child in her class with Alder as her firs choice that didnt get in. The school admissions board advise this is due to her distance from school, however every other child on our road has been offered a place there. Mia is heartbroken that she will not get the chance to go to high school with the rest of her class, she feels isolated and alone. Mia feels there must be a personal issue with her and that they didnt want her, despite our arguments that this is not the case.
The point of this petition is to show that she is a valued member of her class and that it is to the schools detriment not to offer her a place.
I have finalized the formal appeal document and submitted it to the admissions board this morning. We are now awaiting a confirmed time for a hearing to present the evidence regarding the distance discrepancy on our street.

What a ridiculous scenario this is. How can any 'board' or whatever they call it exclude a young girl in this way? My own daughter will be in a similar situation next year and I could not begin to imagine how upset she would be if the same thing happened to her. I sincerely hope common sense prevails and this young lady gets her wish.

I don't know Mia but what I do know is, Its so awful not to go to high school with your friends. I was the only one in my primary who went to Longdendale and had to start off on my own whilst everyone else already had their friends. Let Mia join her friends! X

This was a very similar situation with Alder that we were in with my daughter a few years ago. We managed to get her in on appeal, but they made us jump through hoops. Keep at it and don’t give up hope.

So important to be happy and secure at school . At a time when mental health is at the forefront no child should feel they have been rejected.

This little girl should be able to stay with her friends. She’s the only one on her road not to be offered the feeder school for Dowson and she is in the catchment area

This child must feel devastated and feel so upset to know all her class mate's got a place and not her, Not getting a place at her desired school will have a long-term effect on this child, please reconsider for the child sake..
