UpToDate, a subscription-based medical database, is used by millions of physicians and physician trainees around the world to rapidly access reliable information regarding disease presentation, diagnostic procedures, and treatment guidelines. More than 90% of teaching hospitals in the US utilize UpToDate as a resource for acquiring and applying clinical knowledge.

In this proposal, we are asking that Drexel University College of Medicine (DUCOM) provide access to this gold-standard clinical reference tool for its medical students and faculty. Currently, DUCOM does not provide any subscriptions to UpToDate for faculty or preclinical students, and students in the clinical years of the program are dependent on their clinical site placement for access to the service. Notably, not all clinical sites provide access to UpToDate, including the Reading regional medical campus, where at least 60 students from the Class of 2025 will be studying. This leaves a large percentage of students without access or exposure to UpToDate, which represents a significant disadvantage. In order for our students to continue pursuing the most current and relevant clinical knowledge, we must have access to the clinical tools that will be ubiquitous throughout our medical careers. The integration of UpToDate throughout our pre-clinical studies, Step 1 preparations, and into the clinical years will nurture the growth of inquisitive, motivated future physicians capable of maximizing their DUCOM medical education.
