Get Banbury Town to offer an activity to Young Carers!

Banbury, Oxfordshire, offers many activities to young people; these activities range from Leisure Centres, Football Clubs to Cadets. However the town does not offer any activities for Young Carers. These young people would spend most of their free time caring for their siblings, parents or grandparents. Over one in five Carers spend over 50 hours a week on their caring responsibilities.

I am petitioning for Banbury to start an activity or to open a club/facility especially for Young Carers in the Banbury area. The club would be a place where the young people can meet, and socialise with other Young Carers, like themselves.

The facility should offer many different activities for the young people; ranging from Sporting Activities to Art and Craft- Professional help and advice about caring will also be offered.

The facility would offer something for each and every Young Carer living in and around the Banbury area.

Funding the activity can be provided by sponsorships from local businesses and lots of fundraising from schools around Banbury.

Please support me with the issue, help raise awareness and hopefully soon, Banbury Town Council will offer an activity to the amazing Young Carers of Banbury.

Updates

September 17, 2012

I have spent this week researching potential venues in Banbury that could host a dedicated space for these individuals. The correspondence I have received indicates that many residents recognize the necessity of providing support for those who dedicate so much time to caring for others.

The level of support for this initiative has grown significantly in a very short period. This progress indicates a clear desire within the community to better serve our young carers.

Yes please!! My daughter is a young carer and she never gets to do anything fun or just meet people her own age who get it. This is long overdue for Banbury.

These kids work so hard taking care of family members they deserve a break! Its not fair they miss out on just being kids because of their responsibilities.
