Families with children that live within walking distance of Hillcrest and Howard should have geographical preference to the magnet programs.

Would like to see kids in the neighborhood get preference. I always thought my child would get to go there. He is currently 2 years old and directly affected by the proposed zoning rules.

Your telling me I pay taxes for these schools yet my child won't be able to attend. How fair is that? But this doesn't look like it is about fairness at all.

I firmly believe that these schools need to remain neighborhood schools. It is fine to add Magnet option but let the kids in our neighborhood (where parents pay TAXES FOR THE SCHOOLS) attend these schools!

People should advocate for their local school to be better, not deprive local kids of good schooling.

Increasing the commute both for those who are not zoned and must carpool in and force busing out the zoned neighborhood students increases the risk to student health and safety due greater potential of accidents. Make schools safer by making them local.

I have two children that would be attending Hillcrest - a toddler and a soon to be newborn. We know many other families with babies in this neighborhood who would be filling the school in years to come.

A major factor when parents choose to buy a house in a certain neighborhood is the quality and reputation of the local school. All the children who live in the neighborhoods around Hillcrest and Howard M. S should be given preferential acceptance to attend these schools. I attended both of these schools in the 1950s and 1960s. I knew where most of my classmates lived and had other ties with them through Scouts, Church, and recreational activities. Our society desperately needs more social connectivity and less anonymity.

It is a shame when public schools try to fix situations that are not broken. Hillcrest does have a great reputation, and I would hate for my daughter to get denied entrance because of a new lottery system. I've worked hard to get to know the children at storytime at the Orlando library and Lake Eola's playground hoping that her first friends will be future classmates. Now I am being told that this might not happen and that my sweet little daughter may have to be bussed to some strange neighborhood. I hope these plans fail, and I hope that our community fights against it.

We chose to buy a house in downtown due to the walkability of the area and would like our future kids to benefit from walking to school and back.

This school is part of our neighborhood, my daughter at tended Hillcrest in the 1980's & I have friends that attended in the 1940's. It part of the history of Orlando.

For decades our downtown schools were ignored and neglected. Now that they are resurging -- the direct result of a huge parent effort to create vibrant magnet programs -- they are being taken away. Not right. This must be stopped.
