Gentoo is a source-based Linux distribution. It's rolling release system means that packages become available to it's users a short time after they are released upstream. Compilation of software on Gentoo is highly customizable on a per-package basis by utilizing USE flags, a feature of the Gentoo's package-manager Portage. This makes Gentoo the most adaptable Linux distribution working well on embedded systems, laptops, desktops, as well as servers.
Since each user's system is unique (thanks to the ever changing combination of packages, their versions, useflags, or the choice of the compiler) Quality Assurance on Gentoo is very important. It secures a good experience of Gentoo users and even benefits the greater Linux community due to frequent package-maintainer - upstream contact.
Signers of this petition are supporting:

  • a stronger position of Gentoo's QA team allowing enforceability of a minimal standard of quality of ebuilds
  • well documented directives for Gentoo's devs on how to keep their ebuilds in good shape
  • a dynamic QA team leader
  • extra attention by the DevRel team to QA-nonQA devs relationships to avoid friction, even by acting as a moderationg proxy between devs.

If this petition gathers enough votes, it will be brought by the Vaizard institute to the Gentoo's Council.
