Meneer van Oijen, I fully endorse your few sentences here, as they give a clear view on the strategy used by genocide deniers in general. The Rwandan legislators have described those denial components in an organic law and qualified them as offences. With regard to your comment about bringing genocide deniers to justice I would like to elaborate a bit. I am fully aware that under the current European law(s) prosecution for genocide denial is only possible for denying the Holocaust. That is why the three protagonists whom I mention by name in the petition are challenging us. They are getting away with it and continue to relate their insanities, what results in continuously hurting deeply the victims and their families. Survivors of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi feel as if the genocide of whom their relatives and themselves are victims, is estimated differently from the Holocaust; as if the Rwandan genocide has a lower ranking because denying that genocide is not an offense. For sure we have to work towards more awareness about denialism albeit only to fight the messengers. We have also to do it with the same intensity as creating awareness for genocide ideology itself. Denial is as bad as the disease and we have to realize that it takes at least three generations to have some hope that the roots of evil which have led to the genocide will blur and it that perspective we should make sure that some people cannot frustrate the debate.

Denial is expressed in many subtle ways that all serve to complete the genocide in the sense that the victims end up being discredited and ultimately forgotten. In their work, Verbraeken and Verlinden are doing exactly that. They not always deny that a genocide happened, but at the same time use all the tricks in the book to minimize it: by naming it differently, reversing the victim/perpetrator roles, by fiddling with the numbers of victims, by dehumanizing survivors and exonerating suspected killers, and by generally denying all the different elements that together made up the genocide against the Tutsi. It's no surprise they try to hijack this petition as well. Verlinden complains about the removing of sarcastic signatories, but on his own Facebook page he keeps deleting information that debunks his articles and books. Verbraeken defers anttention to the Mapping report which she claims she has read, but in her work she keeps inflating the number of victims estimated that report tenfold, calling it a forgotten genocide. And Filip Reyntjens just accuses everybody who doesn't think like him of being a RPF agent, as usual. But should we take people to court over acts of denial? Or should we work towards more awareness about denialism? Perhaps one thing can help to achieve the other.

Until all those who deny genocide, will be brought to court in Rwanda or when European legislators will enlarge the holocaust denial law with the denial of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi. Genocide denial is as horrible as genocide itself, it's part of the strategy. This petition is not about a so called dictatorship and bad governance. Strange, that you dare to accuse the actual government of those. Probably you didn't visit Rwanda for a while. Something to hide?

Meneer Verlinden... We don't need, neither want your signature but as you insist and because you are compared to your brother in arms a polite man I will answer your malicious accusation. The problem is, that again you are comparing the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi with other so called 'mass' killings in the region and insidiously you write as far as Rwanda is concerned. So you are accusing someone of having committed one or several mass killings on Hutu and Twa. We know from experience that you are accusing Tutsi, whom else (?), for this and in the next step you will start talking about a second genocide in Rwanda. The problem with your accusations is that apart from in your fantasies, there was never a second genocide and nobody has ever shown that Hutu and Twa were mass killed by Tutsi. If war proceedings have caused casualties; if some individuals have taken revenge after their whole families were atrociously killed by other citizens encouraged by a genocidal regime, that still does not give you the right to talk about a second genocide or so called mass killings. For you, freedom of press means, the biased reporting on Rwanda that you have produced throughout the years. It is the look of a neocolonialist producing wrong, mendacious, unsubstantiated stories to make his case. The VRT and " één " deserves better and has better.

I'm impressed that the independent journalist who insults people, condemned herself for lying, and tells judges they don't do their job properly, is asking me to come with proof that in 1994 1.000000 were killed by the people she loves to defend. Totally agree with Peter Verlinden, I have read the Mapping report of the United Nations several times. I invite the initiator to come with proof, instead of generalizations. We all know how genocide denial is used in Rwanda: to silence people who do not totally agree with the regime.

Strange petition that removes some signatories ... So I sign again, against any manipulation of the truth. I am against denial of the genocide on the Tutsi in Rwanda in 1994. As I am also against the denial of all other mass killings in the region from 1990 on or even before, on as well Tutsi, Hutu and Twa, as far as Rwanda is concerned. That is why I sign this petition to give a signal that denial of all human atrocities, genocide included of course, is not acceptable. Within the freedom of the press, an open and transparant debate on all these atrocities is the only possibility to find out the truth on origins and responsibilities.
