The iconic Chevy El Camino would certainly sell...unlike that truck experiment from a few years back. Instead of attempting to specialize it, just make a practical, good looking version.

There is a version of the Chevy SS called the Maloo in Australia and since all of the EPA, DOT, etc. are completed for a similar vehicle (SS) it will be easy to bring the Maloo into the US as the new El Camino.
