What do you think about children's toys? Should they be categorised in boys and girls? Different colours ? Let's look at a main toys store Toys R Us

Play time is a crucial time for children to develop and learn all about the world. In education we are shown that children need to access a certain range of toys and play experiences. As we know toys are forcused on action, construction, technology, promblem skills and encourage us be active. Although have you ever picked up a catalog or walked by a major toy store and see boys and girls playing together. Toys are segregated by gender to a extreme degree. Science, building and adventure are of course are considered boys toys while dolls, arts & crafts, and toy kitchens are girls toys. A great example of a store who does this is ' Toys R Us ' but why we ask our self. Shops like these reinforce negative stereotypes and encourages us that boys play with these toys and girls must play with those toys.

Such toys then lead girls and boys having different set of skills. Then skills like these build upon to determine the direction of their future schooling and later career path. We can look at the job market partically women low representation in technical fields such as science and engineering further cementing again the gender wage gap. The number of children bullied because they want to play with different types of toys fall outside of the Toys "R" Us gendered 'boy' and 'girl' boxes also continues to rise.

As the biggest toy store chain in the country, Toys "R" Us can set a new standard for to help fight gender stereotyping in stores and advertisements.
