Until at least July 1st, the 2nd floor of Jordan Hall is under construction and the single-stall women's restroom is inaccessible. However, the men’s restroom is accessible and has a single-stall bathroom that could easily be converted into a single-user, gender-neutral restroom, at least while the 2nd floor is under construction. This would equalize the accessibility of the restroom for all of the current students, postdocs, faculty, and staff who work on the 2nd floor.

Furthermore, belonging and inclusion are core values in the Psychology Department. The absence of gender-neutral bathrooms in our department serves as a major issue for transgender individuals who may feel uncomfortable using cisgender bathrooms. Turning the second floor men’s bathroom into an all-gender restroom would be one step towards a more inclusive environment. Indeed, our neighbors in both the Math and Philosophy departments have already taken this step towards inclusivity.
